Why people should buy GAP Insurance from a broker.

(article posted 27/08/2014)

Motorists are being warned about dubious practices surrounding the sale of GAP Insurance following an exposť by BBC's Rip Off Britain.

Often added to the price of the car by the dealer, some unsuspecting motorists are being overcharged by hundreds of pounds on the UK's forecourts and they may not even realise.

Recognising the value of the cover provided by GAP (What is GAP?), independent experts are encouraging drivers to always shop around for alternative prices and remember that they have a 14-day cooling-off period if they do think they've been mis-sold the product.

Nick Day, Head of Marketing at Chris Knott Insurance, comments "To make sure you get the right cover at a fair and reasonable price you need to do your research. There are many providers out there from online price comparison sites to independent brokers. So have a look around to see what's available. That's your right."

He adds "If you'd like advice you'll probably need to speak to an independent broker rather than get it through a faceless website but whatever you do, don't allow yourself to be pressured into adding the cover at the point of vehicle purchase if it's not what you want. Equally, don't leave it too long as some policies require that you arrange cover within the first 90 days of ownership".
